Global Funk was founded by Ben & Natalie McDonald in June 2003. Since 1999 they have been the most active promoters of alternative electronic music in Dubai. From the outset Ben has taken care of all the musical aspects of their events, while Natalie has been responsible for information collection and the general sanity of all parties involved!

They kick started this alternative scene in June 2000 with the first LIQUID event held at Atlantis above the Hard Rock Café, co organized with DJ POINT and CHEDDA. Music policy was Trance, Funk, Breakbeat and Drum & Bass.

The success of this event led to the second LIQUID in January 2001 which attracted over 600 partygoers bouncing to the sounds of KC SMOOTH & MACH4 alongside MC’s FURY, VIPER and Dented Records’ DROP MC.

Ben & Natalie then felt it was time to test the waters with some international names and in April 2001 JUMPING JACK FROST graced the decks and gave the crowd two hours of musical bliss.

After a month’s recovery from the antics of Mr. FROST, it was time for MACH4 and the UK’s ANDY PROFILE, playing back2back, to warm up the crowd before the rolling sounds of Metalheadz residents J MAJIK & MCMC touched down at what was to be the last LIQUID event.

The last two years have seen Ben & Natalie push the music to a wider audience, with regular D&B, Breakbeat and Progressive shows on Radio 1, while trying to find the perfect venue for Globalfunk
